Personal Bankruptcy In Indiana Has Better Chance For Success Due To Employee Recalls And Work Force Expansion

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 by Mark Zuckerberg

As I see it, reporting on employment in our state has become part of my job.  As a debt consolidation lawyer offering bankruptcy services in Indiana, I know that, even with all the Indiana bankruptcy help I might provide, or that the Columbus bankruptcy lawyers who work in the Mark Zuckerberg offices there might provide, bankruptcy cannot succeed if our clients cannot find and keep well-paid jobs. That's true whether our clients are filing bankruptcy Chapter 7 in Indiana or whether they're taking advantage of Chapter 13 bankruptcy laws in Indiana.

That's why I constantly have my eye on any news about employment in Indiana, and why each day I gather information from sources such as Inside Indiana Business and the Indianapolis Star, as well as from different local papers and broadcasts.

This week I have quite a number of good news items about company expansions and also about recalls. (The word "recall" may be bad news when it comes to faulty car parts or dangerous toys, but when it comes to employment, it means that workers who'd been downsized are being called back to work.)

  • Trailer manufacturer Novae Corporation is expanding in Wabash and will create 85 new jobs this year.
  • Software developer Profit Web Systems in Kokomo will create 10-15 new jobs.
  • In Indianapolis, cloud computing company BlueLock plans to add as many as 118 new jobs.
  • In Mt. Vernon, SABIC Innovative Plastics is recalling 40 production workers.
  • Companion Diagnostics is moving to Indianapolis from Connecticut, and will create 30 new jobs.
  • Meanwhile, Just Packaging will hire 35 workers in Indianapolis.

On a national level, a new jobs creation bill cleared Congress.  The bill includes tax breaks and highway spending through subsidizing state and local construction bonds. This, again, is very good news from my point of view. Even though our attorneys help stop foreclosure, offer student loan debt help and payday loan help, in the end clients cannot benefit from making a fresh financial start without having earned income coming in to pay the bills.

The news, unfortunately, was not all rosy.  Howa USA, Inc. is shutting down in Richmond, and 34 jobs will be lost. Even worse, Anderson Community Schools will eliminate more than 200 jobs in the coming school year. (Because one of the four Mark Zuckerberg bankruptcy law offices is in Anderson, I'm particularly chagrined about this news.)

Plain and simple - for bankruptcy to fulfill the purpose of offering a fresh financial start, it's clear we need to put more people back to work.  Looks as if it's beginning to happen in Indiana, but it also looks as if we have a way to go!
